The role of the in house counsel has evolved significantly over time. As the reach of globalisation increases, sharing of information has become more widespread. Consequently there has been a greater benchmarking in performance standards globally. This has translated in impacting the value- added role of the in house counsel and hence this paper aims to establish what the role of the in-house counsel is today and what factors has contributed to changing its function over time.
